TRANSISTOR RADIO DESIGN

This majestic Continental TR-682 was manufactured in Japan circa 1959 for distribution by the Continental Merchandise Co. Inc.

Continental Merchandise Co. Inc., was located at 13 West 27th Street, New York. They were a distributor of transistor radios during the late 1950’s and 1960’s marketed under the Continental brand name. They had links to both Sharp and Aiwa.

This Continental features a luxurious jet black reverse painted tuning dial framed by two regal gold chevrons. The tuning dial peephole, which is shaped like a crown, adds to the noble appearance of this radio. The vertical lines on the chromed metal speaker grill remind me of the chain mail battle skirt of an ancient knight!

I have seen this Continental TR-682 radio with either a light blue cabinet or cream but not in any other colors.

This Continental TR-682 comes with its original gift box, leather carry case, leather earphone case, earphone, service card, instruction and guarantee booklet, schematic diagram old 'Kent' brand battery and to top it off it still has its original price tag of $27.50!!
