TRANSISTOR RADIO DESIGN

Focusing on the design of pocket transistor radios manufactured during the 1950's & 1960's!

TRANCEL TP-194

This Trancel TP-194 was manufactured by Toshiba in Japan in 1959. It was distributed in America by Transistor World Corp of 52 Broadway, New York.

Toshiba made many sublime looking radios under the name Trancel and this TP-194 is yet another example of why Toshiba is my favorite manufacturer of transistor radios!

This Trancel TP-194 is the macho version of the Toshiba TR-193 ‘Lace’. It is almost identical except that the lace portion of the speaker grill has been replaced by industrial perforated metal, grrrrrrrr! And to top it off the plastic cabinet shines like a beer glass made of black obsidian! However it still shares the same delicate tuning dial as the feminine ‘Lace’...

It is also seen branded as its maker, Toshiba.

“Two more bottles of Perrier Mineral Water for the Lace and another Heineken for the Trancel, and make it snappy Manuel”!

Meanwhile sipping Perrier and downing a few Heinies in their dressing room pre-shoot sit ‘soon to be mobbed’ Rock Stars Toshiba & Trancel, oh to be famous…..!

“Chantilly lace and a pretty face
And a pony tail hanging down
That wiggle in the walk and giggle in the talk
Makes the world go round
There ain't nothing in the world like a big eyed girl
That makes me act so funny, makes me spend my money
Makes me feel real loose like a long necked goose
Oh baby that's what I like!”
